First Security, part of Interserve, has been awarded a manned guarding and security services contract with the BBC. The three year contract has an option to extend for an additional two years. This is reportedly the first time the broadcaster has chosen one national security provider, having previously split the service regionally. This contract will see security personnel deliver services across the UK, including locations such as Maida Vale Studios and Broadcasting House in London, and MediaCityUK in Salford. Eddie Halling, Head of Corporate Security at the BBC, says,” We have very clear objectives in ensuring the BBC is a safe and secure environment for staff and visitors across the estate and First Security were the right choice in supporting us with this goal.”
