For those attending the Protection and Management Week 2013 at Birmingham’s NEC – which includes IFSEC, Firex, Safety and Health Expo and the Facilities Show – time will understandably be tight. With so many suppliers crammed into the halls, it becomes essential to talk to the right people about possible solutions. To help, Risk UK has considered some of the issues that today’s businesses and organisations face, and points those attending towards companies that can help achieve solutions via a guide published both in the May 2013 issue of Risk UK, and on the Risk UK website. The guide covers areas including fire protection in critical infrastructure environments, networked surveillance for retailers, fire detection in large and open spaces, using access control as the central element of a total management system, video-based fire detection, protecting production lines and factory spaces, integrating alarm and access solutions for enhanced functionality and the benefits of a holistic view towards total security provision. This year’s Protection and Management Week will be the last held at Birmingham’s NEC. In 2014 the event moves to its new home at London’s Excel exhibition centre. The move will enable the events to be further developed, delivering ever more benefits to those attending the co-located expos. IFSEC International is the largest event for the security industry, bringing together the entire security buying chain in one place. Now in its 40th year, it attracts more than 650 solution providers from 100 countries. The event also hosts seven free education theatres, covering the main issues in security. Visitors will also have the chance to gain CPE or CPD points towards professional development. IFSEC covers traditional security and fire solutions, access control and biometrics, counter terror, CCTV and video surveillance, intruder alarms, IP and networks, intelligent buildings, physical security and lone worker protection. Firex International is a significant event for professionals involved in fire protection, prevention and detection, offering a comprehensive selection of the latest thought-leadership. The event attracts over 140 major manufacturers, along with 120 hours of free educational seminars, Firex International is the place to attend to discover and determine the future of the fire prevention industry. Safety and Health Expo is Europe’s leading annual exhibition for the occupational safety and health industry, and claims to be the only health and safety show to have the exclusive support of key industry partners IOSH, RoSPA and the BSIF. The Facilities Show is dedicated to providing facilities managers from all sectors with a comprehensive package of need-to-know information, bringing together suppliers and specialists to share knowledge, debate current issues and find best-fit solutions and products for any organisation’s needs. Note: The Facilities Show and Safety and Health Expo are only open 14-16 May 2013.
