National Security Inspectorate outlines extensive plans for IFSEC and FIREX 2019

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI), a partner of IFSEC International, has devised an action-packed agenda for the UK’s largest security event which is taking place at ExCeL in London from 18-20 June. Based at Stand IF2940, the NSI’s team will be involved in a wide range of activities throughout the show including taking an active role by sharing the latest developments on industry standards with buyers and providers of security and fire safety systems and services. 

The NSI’s technical experts will be participating in this year’s ‘Show Me How’ programme by hosting a series of specialist sessions on Stand IF2940 throughout Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 June. These are as follows:

*10.45 am-11.15 am Latest Updates to the SIA ACS Self-Assessment Workbook (*Tuesday 18 June only). Delivered by Margaret Durr (head of field operations for services)

*11.30 am-12 noon Ask The Expert: PD 6662:2017 Ready Reckoner and NCP 104 (Issue 3) for CCTV. Delievered by Robert Conlon (head of standards) and Matthew Holliday (technical manager)

*12.15 pm-12.45 pm NSI/BAFE SP206 Kitchen Fire Protection Systems Scheme: An Overview. Delivered by John Davidson (head of field operations for systems)

*2.40 pm-2.50 pm Ask The Expert: Cyber Security Awareness on Installed Security Systems. Delivered by Matthew Holliday (technical manager)

*3.00 pm-3.30 pm Independent Certification Raising Fire Safety Standards in the UK. Delivered by John Davidson (head of field operations for systems)

FIREX International 2019

As a leading authority on fire safety, the NSI will also have a presence in FIREX. John Davidson (the NSI’s head of operations for systems) will be presenting in the Fire Protection Association’s InfoZone on Wednesday 19 June.

*10.30 am-11.00 am The Most Common and Serious Issues Fire Risk Assessors Are Coming Across Right Now. Making use of real-life examples, Davidson will describe in detail some of the shocking situations fire risk assessors witness in this day and age and also explain the overriding importance of contracting competent fire risk assessors with the requisite third party certification.

With the NSI being one of the proud founding stakeholders of the Engineers of Tomorrow competition, CEO Richard Jenkins will be presenting the heat winners’ prizes in the Keynote Arena at 3.20 pm on Thursday 20 June.

The NSI’s auditors continue to play an integral role in adjudicating this national competition for apprentice installers which takes place throughout the three days at IFSEC. Now in its 21st year, the Engineers of Tomorrow competition shines a spotlight on the future talent coming into the industry who are helping to fill the skills gap and take the security and fire sector forward. The installation challenge runs throughout the three days of IFSEC International, encouraging the development of young engineers and giving apprentices the chance to win a cash prizes of up to £1,000. The Top Three winning pairs are invited to the prestigious Security Excellence Awards in November.

Drinks reception

On Tuesday 18 June at 4.00 pm, the NSI will be hosting a drinks reception on Stand IF2940 for its approved companies and invited industry stakeholders. In keeping with the recent NSI Summit’s theme of ‘Strengthening Partnerships’, Richard Jenkins, the NSI team members and invited guests will be raising a glass to celebrate the success of private security and fire safety providers in delivering safer environments by working to standards set jointly by industry and stakeholders to protect people and property and improve public safety.

‘Cash’, the NSI’s popular owl, will once again be making a guest appearance on 18 and 19 June. This year, visitors to the stand wishing to discuss their certification questions and requirements and who share a photograph of themselves together with ‘Cash’ the owl on social media using the hashtag #WhatAHoot will receive a complimentary gift.
