Mitie recognised by Top Employers Institute for FM sector prowess across UK plc

Mitie has just become the only UK facilities management (FM) company to be honoured by the Top Employers Institute in 2019. The accreditation of Top Employer, which recognises excellence in people practice, is testament to Mitie’s people-centric approach as a business.

The certificate is awarded to organisations of the highest calibre that have worked hard to create, implement and progress their people strategies. Top Employers lead the way in ‘people-first’ HR practices, with Mitie qualifying among a prestigious list of peers.

As an independent HR certification company, the Top Employers Institute assesses participants through its global HR Best Practice Survey which covers topics from talent acquisition to leadership development. In order to be certified, organisations must successfully achieve the required standard as set out by the Top Employers Institute.

The certificate comes as Mitie continues its cultural transformation programme. Mitie has listened to its 54,000 staff and responded directly to their needs by launching it’s ‘You Said, We Did’ campaign. Activity to date has included launching an all-new, company-wide vision and values statement, developing policies which support the workforce’s needs (such as an enhanced maternity package) and launching new technology to unite the diverse workforce.

The certificate was presented at a ceremony held at the London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane on Thursday 31 January.

David Plink, CEO of the Top Employers Institute, said: “We believe that the 2019 certified organisations demonstrate exceptional employee conditions and encourage the development of these practices by putting their people first. These companies help to enrich the world of work with their outstanding dedication to HR excellence and, because of this, they’re recognised as an employer of choice.”

Jo Davis, Group HR director at Mitie, responded: “We are honoured to announce that Mitie has been certified as a 2019 Top Employer. Our promise to our people is to create a place where they can thrive and be their best every day. We’re on a journey to make Mitie a fantastic place to work and this accolade shows that we are absolutely moving in the right direction, creating a place where our people can both be, and deliver, the exceptional every day.”

Founded in 1987, Mitie offers a range of specialist services including security, custody support services, engineering services, catering, cleaning, landscaping, energy and property consultancy and also property maintenance.

The business employs 54,000 people across the country who look after a large, diverse, blue chip customer base, from banks and retailers through to hospitals, schools and Government offices.
