Demand for cyber security advice has never been so great. The UK now faces increasing numbers of sophisticated and complex cyber threats at a time when industry, Government and citizens are more reliant on technology and the Internet to do business and carry out their daily lives.

Liam Maxwell, the Government’s Chief Technology Officer, said: “I welcome and support the new CESG Certified Cyber Security Consultancy scheme. This initiative will ensure that Government and industry have the right cyber security consultancy services to protect their information and do business safely online.”

New approach towards advice

CESG consulted widely with customers and industry experts in 2014 before concluding that information security advice would best be met through a new approach of certifying companies which would provide extra capacity to match the increased demand.

Announcing the names of the certified companies, Ciaran Martin (GCHQ’s director general for cyber security) said: “I’m pleased that we have certified these six companies. This is just the start of an ongoing process designed to build a wide pool of trusted cyber security advisors for our customers.”

Certified Cyber Security Consultancy status is open to companies of all sizes giving customers the widest choice possible of trusted cyber services from partner suppliers. Most of the successful companies in this group are small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) so this approach is also contributing to the vibrant market of consultancy which will benefit customers and the UK’s cyber security industry in general.
