ARCINOVA, a leading global provider of R&D services to the pharmaceutical industry, has announced the appointment of Pilgrims Group as its chosen supplier of security guarding and general security services for its newly-acquired site in Alnwick, Northumberland.
ARCINOVA is a specialist contract R&D organisation providing the pharmaceutical industry with comprehensive services encompassing everything from drug R&D through to small-scale manufacture. Formed by owners of Shott Trinova LLP, the company acquired the Alnwick site from global drug services company Covance in February this year in a bid to lead its international contract R&D business.
For its part, Pilgrims Group boasts long-standing experience of providing security and risk management services to the pharmaceutical industry. “The pharma industry plays an important role and brings with it additional security considerations,” commented Anthony Wisdom, contract development manager at Pilgrims Group. “Pilgrims has vast experience of operating in this market. We operate globally within this industry and support the entire supply chain, including R&D, manufacturing, distribution and medical services. Clients also have the ability to draw on our other divisions and services, such as information and intelligence, risk assessment and business continuity planning, consultancy and corporate and executive protection.”
The Alnwick site has focused primarily on activities that fall within chemistry manufacturing and controls, bioanalysis, drug metabolism pharmacokinetics and the regulatory compliance areas of pharmaceutical R&D which will be continued in full. ARCINOVA will add capability in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) process development and scale up to the multi-kilogram level.
The new business will continue to offer these services to Covance while also seeking to build a large international client base. The company will aim to deliver Best in Class technology in the fields of contract research, development and small- scale manufacturing in order to maximise effectiveness while minimising risk and overall cost.
Further business in the pharma sector
Another major European pharmaceutical company has also chosen Pilgrims Group to work across all of its UK sites. The news follows on from a recent competitive tendering process.
Already a long-standing Pilgrims client, the business previously used Pilgrims Group’s security guarding services at specific locations. Following the tender process to renew this contract, Pilgrims has also not only renewed, but also won the contract to provide security guarding for the rest of the company’s UK sites.
The company’s security director commented: “We take the security and safety of our medicines and our patients extremely seriously. The cornerstone of this is the quality and professionalism of the security guarding service we employ and deploy to protect the company’s facilities where the diverse product portfolio of which we’re in charge is manufactured, stored and administered. In the wake of an extensive selection process, we’re pleased that we’ve been able to engage Pilgrims Group as our preferred security guarding service supplier.”
Anthony Wisdom added: “We’ve enjoyed an excellent working relationship with this client since 2006, and now look forward to taking a joined-up UK approach to what we do for them, right across the business.”
