Olympic continuity concerns

Frontier Technology
With the London 2012 Olympic Games approaching, a group of legal, financial, media and public sector organisations came together recently to discuss the impact of the event. The meeting was held by Frontier Technology, The City of London Corporation and Citrix, to provide information and practical solutions for delegates' business concerns.

With approximately 300,000 foreign visitors due to stay in Britain during the Games, the firms' major concerns were transportation, terrorism, threats to security and lost mobile phone reception. Equally most delegates felt that as the Olympic Games in London is a unique event for many it was evitable that staff would want to take time off and join in with the celebrations.

"The London Olympics is obviously going to be a major and once in a lifetime event that we are all excited about. We need to find good balance so we manage staff excitement and maintain company productivity" Stuart Purton, Personal Injury Team Manager, Hodge Jones and Allen LLP.

All attendees felt that a seamless business continuity plan and a flexible workforce would provide an effective method to minimise revenue loss. Those who already had these in place were looking to strengthen security and stress-test their contingency plans to ensure they are fail proof. Organisations also strongly expressed the importance of carrying out due-diligence checks on all of their suppliers to see if they had any plans around the Games in place.

Edwin Wong, Managing Director, Frontier Technology commented: "Looking back at other major events and the associated disruption, it is important to plan for any eventuality. Remote working and a seamless business continuity plan are essential measures for firms to safeguard their data and ensure maintained business continuity."

The roundtable meeting raised a number of unanswered business questions regarding the 2012 Olympics Games. Specifically delegates wanted to find out more about the transportation issues, terrorism threats and virtualisation and business continuity technology that can adopted to reduce revenue loss.

The City of London Corporation, Frontier Technology and Citrix have scheduled another meeting for September to release new information about the event.
