BSIA set to host Cyber Security Services launch event at IFSEC International 2017

Organised by UBM EMEA, IFSEC International 2017 – which takes place at London’s ExCeL from 20-22 June – is set to be another impressive event, with an extensive seminar programme and a wide range of security products and services on show. There will be plenty to see across the show floor. For its part, the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) is planning some exciting events throughout the week.

Located on Stand B1300, the BSIA remains a prominent partner of IFSEC, with a variety of BSIA staff and members partaking in this year’s busy seminar and debate programme. As well as promoting the importance of choosing a reputable supplier and providing an exclusive lounge for BSIA members to relax in or hold meetings, this year the BSIA will also be hosting some special events on its stand.

On Wednesday 21 June at 12.30 pm, the BSIA will play host to an exclusive networking event sponsored by technology innovator NetVu, who’ll be joined by one of IFSEC’s Inspirational Speakers, namely ‘rock star’ physicist Professor Brian Cox OBE. Attendees will have the opportunity to network with Professor Cox over a light lunch and drinks, with representatives from NetVu also being on hand to discuss some of their latest technology.

In particular, attendees will have the chance to talk about prominent topics such as cyber security and how connected products are offering added protection for end users.

Immediately following the networking lunch, the BSIA will be continuing the theme of cyber security at a special Cyber Security Services launch event. The BSIA recognises the fact that cyber security is essential in today’s technological world, and has been taking steps to ensure that the Trade Association is fully equipped to guide its members on this issue.

Such steps include the BSIA’s recent cyber security event in Scotland, which was held in partnership with the Scottish Business Resilience Centre, as well as the formation of the BSIA’s Cyber Security Product Assurance Group (CySPAG), which aims to provide education and guidance on Best Practice in cyber resilience for product manufacturers, installers and end users alike.

Cyber security training

In light of the work the BSIA has already undertaken, Dave Wilkinson (the organisation’s technical director) will be launching the Association’s official cyber offering at 1.15 pm on Wednesday 21 June. The event will include the unveiling of the BSIA’s brand new cyber web page, as well as some announcements concerning exclusive member discounts on cyber security training and the Cyber Essentials certification scheme.

Joining Dave Wilkinson will be Ian Kerr of ID Cyber Solutions, who’s scheduled to deliver a presentation on the key elements of Cyber Essentials.

“The BSIA has been working on a number of initiatives to ensure the Association is abreast of the latest developments in cyber security and, through our ‘trusted partner’ initiative, we’re best placed to provide practical advice and guidance to both BSIA members and members of the general public,” explained Wilkinson. “IFSEC International will be the perfect platform to showcase our official position on cyber and announce some trusted partner services and genuine discounts that will be extremely beneficial to our members.”

The Association is also an official supporter of the Engineers of Tomorrow competition, which sees young apprentices compete against each other in a live installation challenge. The competition takes place over the course of the show’s three days, with the young engineers competing in the Installer Zone from 10.00 am on each day.
